Another idea from Country Living

In “Honor thy mother” posted on April 14th I suggested you ask your staff and customers to share pictures of their mother (and fathers) to develop friendship and community. The idea for this came from the May issue of Country Living. Well, the newest issue of Country Living arrived yesterday and again the masthead gave me an idea. This time Country Living placed vacation photos and short tales of the staff’s vacations past. Think what fun it would be to ask your staff and customers to share a picture of this year’s summer vacation. Post them on a bulletin board included in a summer-themed display. Use sand pails, seashells, travel brochures, vintage suitcases as props with summer (think: red, white and blue, blue and white, flowers) fabrics and projects. Take the idea a step further: encourage customers to make an art quilt depicting their vacation. The pictures shown here are from a hike at Tent Rocks during a spring trip to Santa Fe in 2006. When I arrived home I created the small 8- by 10-inch wall-piece with fabric, fabric paints, stamps, beads and quilting. Put together an embellishment starter kit. Host a monthly “make vacation art” day. Happy travels to you all! Susan
